Net Accounting System is the popular choice of domestic customers due to two good reasons:

• It is a ‘behind the meter’ solution, where the first use of the generated solar PV is for the customer and any excess is exported to the national grid.

Net Plus Off Grid

Larger solar PV installations in commercial properties the preference is for the Net Plus System where all of the solar PV electricity generated is exported to the grid. The customer continues with the normal import for own use as before. If there are no internal switchboards where the significant solar PV generated kWh/ kVA cannot be accommodated in your building, the Net Plus is the choice.

Domestic customers can achieve a further cost reduction by opting for a electricity tariff change to three part Time of Use Tariff’, and achieve further reduction. Install a range of proven energy efficient equipment - LEDs, ceiling fans, alternative solar air conditioning systems. With the monthly savings achieved you will be able to the recover the cost of installation within about 4 years

HOW DOES YOUR SOLAR PV SYSTEM WORK?

HOW DOES YOUR BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEM WORK?

In a battery storage system, we add batteries to the home system we install so that you can keep your PV electricity for your own use and will not give it away to the power supply mains. In this manner you will have electricity at home when there is a mains power failure. This is comparable to having a home generator set give you power during a blackout.

In smaller domestic the battery systems your only connection to the mains is via home power point to maintain the battery charge in the correct balance. We may install special protection automatic isolation devices to separate you from the mains supply. Your home electrical wiring and installation will be certified by a professionally qualified electrical engineer.

Why is AC used and not DC?

In DC electricity the current runs in one direction always, and in AC it runs in both directions alternatively. This happen s in the manner electricity is tapped at the power generating stations - hydro, coal, gas or others. We can take it either as DC or AC.

Electricity generation firstly developed in the 19 the century as DC electricity. Although it appears more complex AC electricity is the main supply system throughout the world. AC has far superior qualities for use in domestic, commercial and industrial power management. It is rare to find DC applications although DC has important advantages over AC in specific usages.
So, a 230 volts, 50 Hertz (or cycles per second) system is used in homes in Sri Lanka.

AC and DC isolator switches in an On Grid Solar PV System

Safety is the most important criterion in an electrical system whether AC or DC

AC isolator switches are used for disconnecting the inverter from a grid tied system for maintenance, repair or installation. In the diagrams provided the AC isolator is shown as 'AC Isolation' and used in most PV applications. The position of the isolation switch may differ in each individual installation. Isolation of the AC supply de-energises the Inverter, and therefore the export of power to the grid, and makes it safe to Isolate the DC breakers. When switching on a grid connected PV Solar system back to life, the last switch to be switched on s the AC Isolator. This now activates the whole electricity generation process. So, as a rule, the AC isolator is the first OFF when de-activating the system and the last to be switched ON when activating the system.
